Today blog is about setting up the BlackBerry service from Maxis. Firstly, we need to apply and activate the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) and for the unlimited package is at RM 120 monthly fix charges. Depending on the which plan and device, we may get the device free of charge. Once we got the device and BIS service has been activated, you need to get the Device PIN and IMEI number which we can find it in the phone options/settings.
Then, goto website at http://maxis.blackberry.com/ and click the button "Create New Account". After we click to accept the agreement, the we will be prompted to enter the Device PIN and device IMEI which can find it from the phone options/settings.
Remember to select the setup for the BlackBerry email account rather than any other email account. The website is designed is rather confusion, because right after you have entered the Device PIN and IMEI, it will prompt you a page for setup 2 type of email accounts (at the upper portion of the page is the setup for external/other email and at the bottom is the setup for BlackBerry email). We must skip and leave it empty field at top of the page (other email setup) and straight away go to setup BlackBerry email, which appear at the bottom of the page.
Once setup successfully, the BlackBerry Device Email Address with the format name@maxis.blackberry.com will be appearred in the list, then we click the button to setup for external email account. BIS server will accessing emails for us and push it to BlackBerry devices.
About Security
Since we are signing-up the BIS and not BES, the security will be an issue. In BIS, and if we use this service for access company emails (eg. Microsoft Exchange), the setup & settings for non-BlackBerry email account is actually stored in the BIS server including password. But we cannot sure that settings are well kept and not being misused.
