Today, I will talk 'only' about domain name registration & DNS hosting services (but nothing about web & email hosting) I provide comparison from some of the well-known domain name registrars. So, I asked people from IRC in channel ##php and one of them to suggested me to search goolge for words "registrar and registrar reviews", then I tried and from there I can find out many information about domain registration and hosting services.
Those good domain name providers found in my search are : Yahoo, 1and1.com, godaddy.com, netfirms, networksolution.com, domain.com, melbourneit.com, NameCheap.com
Yahoo!Domain, offers domain registration, start at $1.99/yr for first year ($12.95/year after) does not include WHOIS privavy.
1and1.com offerring $6.99/year for the first year, then year after, standard pricing applied. I have actually emailed to sales@1and1.com asking about the pricing for the subsequence years, and their replied me that the standard price remains to $6.99 -But not all countries can register for their offer - including Malaysia :-(
Netfirms.com is offering $5.95/year (as at July-2008) for first year and renewal at $9.95/yr including WHOIS privacy. Good support (live-chat, fast email respond), Free extra: 1 E-Mail Account, 25MB for a Basic webpage, Domain Forwarding, DNS management.
NameCheap.com charged $9.69/year, WHOIS privacy is at $2.88/year, however other hosting services are at very low price.
GoDaddy.com (very popular, start at $1.99/yr for first year ($9.99/yr year after).
Domain.com, Mydomain.com (.com, .net, .org, .biz at $9.95/yr registration, and additional of $6.99/yr for WHOIS privacy)
Name.com charge $8.99/yr for registration or renewal, WHOIS privacy is included free.

I have experienced with a few local (Malaysia) based hosting companies, most of them are providing a combined of DNS, web or email hosting service, however, they locked-down the settings for DNS hosting, so I unable to redirect some of services to other providers. They also do not provide me the access and logon to the original registrar to manage my DNS settings under my own domain.
So, I would suggest to purchase any domain name directly from the international registrar, rather then the local hosting company.
