TMNet has blocked outbound SMTP traffic

Since 03-Dec-2007, Telekom Malaysia Berhad had implemented a new policy to combat spam mails. So, TM had blocked OUTBOUND Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) traffic or port 25 for all outgoing e-mails from clients with dynamic IP addresses, thus users would no longer be able to send email directly. Only outbound SMTP traffic from smtp.streamyx.com and smtp.tm.net.my will be allowed. (or smtp-proxy.tm.net.my)

You can forget about DomainKeys as the smtp-proxy will break your signature. For mobile users who hops around different Internet connections, from home Streamyx to public WiFi such as from Starbucks and etc, they may need to changing the SMTP settings aren’t exactly a consumer friendly solution.

How to overcome this problem?

Solution 1 (Provided by TM)
- Under the SMTP settings in your mail client, you would need to reset to "smtp-proxy.tm.net.my" instead of 'mail.yourdomainname". Also, you would need to uncheck/unmark "My Server Requires Authentication".

* Please take note that this can be done for those who DO NOT have their OWN internal mailserver

Solution 2 (Provided by TM)

Solution 3
- Users would have to change the SMTP Port 25 to 587 in your mail clients. However, please take note that this would only be EFFECTIVE for those users who are using SMARTERMAIL or QMAIL system.

- How do you know which mail system are you using?
(i) Enter "http://mail.youdomain.com" without quotes at your Internet Browser. You would see a web based mail in which the mail system would appear.

Solution 4
- Change to use alternative ISP such as Maxis, Jaring, TimeNet, NTT etc.

Solution 5
- Upgrade your TM-Net ISP from dynamic IP address to dedicated IP address.
