No price different for both 32 & 64-bit Vista OEM

On 17-Sept-2008, I visited a computer shop at Digital Mall, Section 14, and I bought a computer (all parts are selected separately, like CPU, motherboard, memory…etc) and assembly them to become a whole unit. Also, I requested for Microsoft Windows Vista Business OEM 64-bit License and the guy told me that it will cost exceed RM 1,000 compare the 32-bit version which is about RM400, so that is why I choose to buy the 32-bit edition instead of 64-bit Vista.

Then, today I discovered that the OEM 64-bit Vista Business should less than RM 200 compare to 32-bit OEM Vista Business, according to other computer shop. And feel cheated and very angry, so then I called the shop asking for exchange, but they gave me … many reasons, until I called to their HQ, and then I realized they do not carry (trade) for any OEM Vista 64-bit editions, and also they said goods sold cannot be exchanged. And I am now very disappointed. FYI, I have NOT installed and NOT activated the Vista Business 32-bit on my this newly purchased PC, and yet, they do not allow for getting me the 64-bit.

Then I wrote an email to my company Microsoft Account Manager, and ask for advice on this matter, and he advised me to called 1800-88-6295 (Microsoft SEA customer service line) for clarification.
  1. There is no price difference for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista for OEM products. (but not for retail pack)
  2. The product key and the label, that come together with the DVD media (32-bit Vista) can also be used & to install the 64-bit Vista.
In conclusion, please beware that if you are paying more money for 64-bit compare to 32-bit Vista OEM license, because there should not have price differences, particularly to OEM licenses.
